MAY 2012 ACTIVITIES


1.     Labour Day Vipassana Meditation Retreat: 28 Apr – 1 May (Sat - Mon)

Labour Day Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sejjanalankara (Dvipitakadhara) from 28 Apr to 1 May at our centre.   Food and drinks sponsors are welcome.

2.     Vesak Day Vipassana Meditation Retreat: 5 – 6 May (Sat - Sun)

Vesak Day Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Rajinda from 5-6 May at our centre.   Retreat will start at 1 pm after the Vesak celebration.  Food and drinks sponsors are welcome.

3.     Vesak Day Celebration: 5 May, Saturday at 9.30 am

We will be celebrating Vesak Day (Buddhist Era 2556) on 5 May to mark the Birth, Enlightenment and Parinibbana of our Lord Gotama Buddha. Do join us on this special occasion. We wish everyone a Happy Vesak Day! 

May the Blessings of the Triple Gem shower upon all!

4.     ‘Light a Lantern’ for Vesak at SMC: 5 May 2012

“Giving food, one gives strength; giving clothes, one gives beauty; giving a vehicle, one gives ease; giving a lamp, one gives sight.  The one who gives a residence is the giver of all” 
– Sagathavagga, Devatasamyutta

Lanterns will be lit at SMC premises for the celebration of Vesak Day. Sponsorship for each lantern is $30. If you wish to sponsor a lantern, please quickly email your name(s) and send us a cheque, or write your name(s) on the provided envelope and the name list on the white board at SMC before  4 May 2012.

5.      Group Meditation Sessions:  6, 13, 20 & 27 May (Sun), 9.30 am – 6.30 pm

Group meditation will be conducted on every Sunday of the month from 9.30 am to 7 pm.  All are welcome to join us in the group meditation session at our centre.  Lunch will be provided for all yogis.  
We would appreciate if yogis could register your attendance by email (name, contact number, session). This is will help us in our lunch preparation for yogis. Sponsors for lunch dana and maintenance expenses most welcome.

6.      Pindapata (alms food offering): 27 May 2012, Sunday,  9 am

On Sunday 27 May, our Venerable will be going on pindapata  (collection of alms food) at 9-9.30am in the vicinity of the market (near platform area) at Chong Pang City, Yishun Ring Road.  Giving alms food or food dana is one of the meritorious deeds. Devotees who wish to participate in this meritorious activity may offer packet cooked food and dry food stuff (e.g. fruit, uncooked rice, sugar, salt, oil, biscuits, tissue paper, uncooked bee hoon, 3-in-1 beverages, toilet roll, soap, etc).  Everyone is welcome to participate in this meritorious event and share the merit. Please do not offer money during the alms round as the monks will accept food only.

7.      Upcoming Activities in June:  Dhamma Course for Children

A Dhamma course will be conducted for children of 7 to 16 years old in Burmese from 2-17 June 2012 at SMC.  Please download the application here.
